Roof puzzle

Postby tp_zoveel » April 23rd, 2018, 10:41 am

Hi all,

This is harder than it seems.
I'm trying to create house with a gable roof that is flat in the middle.
In addition, the left side starts at 120cm above the second floor, and the right side starts at 120cm above the first floor.
Lastly, there are multiple windows and dormers.
I've attached a PNG of the sideview, which I made in Powerpoint (!) and hopefully explains the situation.

I've tried several configurations but I can't get this done. The flat part seems impossible and the rest, too.
Can anyone help out?

Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Theo-Paul

Do you have a picture with this kind of roof? Can you post it here?

I am having the same issue. The images you posted look pretty similar to what I need to achieve (but mine is symmetric, so a lot simpler).

How do you get the roof line to cut into the second floor? I've tried lowering to height of the 2nd floor so that the wall height is 1.5m, but then all my doors get cut off, and the only way to get the attic floor to the correct height is is w/a floor rectangle that is several meters high.

I figured it out myself. Posting here for posterity.

Trick is to divide the floor into two sections. The ground floor gets a roof section (shed type) that extends up to the ceiling height of the 2nd floor. The 2nd floor gets a roof section that fills in the gap, starting where the first floor ended. Then the adjust either the angles or story heights to make the rooflines meet.

The only think I haven't perfected was the interior walls. The walls extending up to the ceiling are story walls, but the walls extending up to the main floor's roof (the angled portion of ceiling must be loft walls. But the two walls cannot intersect; if they do, the loft wall is converted to a story-wall, and sticks out through ground floor's roof.

I've highlighted the section of roof that is my ground-floor roof.

A tip for how to remove story wall protruding the roof.
