2 stories under roof

Postby Urs » January 4th, 2015, 1:28 pm

Hi,

For my project, I need help on the following:

My house consists of 4 stories: ground floor, 1st./2nd and 3rd floor. Ground and 1st floor are full stories, floor 3 and 4 are under the gable roof (3rd from about the base of the roof, 4rd from about middle to the top of the roof). How can I build such a house in the software?

I think I tried everything and I am running out of ideas. Using loft walls did not help as they are sticking through the roof and are not limited by the roof as described by the help-page.

Thanks for your input;

Brgds,
Urs

Hi Urs,

If I understood you correctly, this discussion is about a roof like yours:

Please ignore posts with question marks, one of my posts is readable.

Hi Nick,

thank you for your answer. However, this does not help, as to me the description is not conclusive. e.g. I can't find the rotate 90 degree option for the roof..., can't delete parts of the roof or if I delete walls it will change the roof.

I simply want to draw 2 stories under one roof as discribed (not like you suggested in the sample). I liked the software as it is quite straight forward, but is it so difficult to have 2 stories under the roof?

Best,
Urs

Hi Urs,

I gave you one of possible examples. Please post a drawing or photo of a roof you wish to create.

Dear Nick
I attached a drawing of the layout - hopefully it's acceptable size-wise.Thank you for showing a solution to that building.

Kind regards,
Urs

Hi,

Thanks for the image. The way I referred before is still one of solutions. let me repeat it with more detail.

1. Add walls.

2. Add roofs on the 3rd and 4th floors.

This is what we have now.

3. Select the slope marked with blue color in the picture above and change its type to Hole.

4. Match slopes on the 3rd and 4th floors.

5. Go inside the 3rd floor and add an opening to a wall which is made of white brick in the first picture. This is needed if you want to join the space in the middle with on under the roof. The result is below. A gray stripe on the floor is where the wall was located. You can apply to it the same color as the floor has.

6. Repeat the steps above for the opposite side of the building.

An alternative method is simpler. You can create a single roof atop of the whole third story, and then add a horizontal shape to create a fake floor. The latter is blue in the picture.
