Icon 32x32 px when exported not 32x32 px

Postby paulsondervan » April 27th, 2016, 4:49 am

I have created an icon 32x32 pixels.
When I export this icon as a PNG-file, with resolution 72 dpi, the file measures 64x64 pixels.
Other exports give the same result (64x64 pixels)
What am i doing wrong?

Hi,

I tried to repeat the problem you have. The size of the exported image was correct.

What version of Art Text do you have?
What version of OS X is on your computer?

Please send your Art Text document to support@belightsoft.com together with the link to this topic.

Hi Nick,

Art Text: 2.5 (522)
OS X 10.11.4

I started with Affinity Designer.
The icon was created from a vector picture (eps).
The icon was black and I changed the color and added a colored border.
I downsized the icon to 32x32 px and saved it.
Than I copied the icon and pasted it in a new Art Text document.
I set the size to 32x32 and exported the icon as png.
The result was a 64x64 px icon.
Attached it the Art Text document.

Hi,

Thanks for the details and your document. I've exported your document to a PNG at 72 dpi. The PNG was 32x32.

Please try this. Create a new document with the 32x32 px size. Add a square instead if the default text. Press Cmd-E to open the Export dialog. Choose PNG, and set 72 dpi. Set up the path and click Save. Open the created image in Preview.app and press Cmd-I. What size is indicated there?

If it is not 32x32, try to export with other parameters: PNG at 200 dpi, then TIFF at 72 dpi. Then export PNG at 72 dpi again. What image size will you have with the last two images: TIFF at 72 and PNG at 72 ?

Hi Nick,

I made a new document 32x32 px and added a rectangle.
Saved it as a png with DPI 72 (see ArtTextExport32x32px.png)
When I open the file in Preview and show info, the result is 64x64px and the DPI is 144.
(see PreviewTest.png)

Hi Paul,

On my computer, the same steps create an image with the correct size. Please try to completely reinstall Art Text. This can eliminate the possibility that your copy of the program or its settings are damaged. To do this:
1. Delete the Art Text application.
2. Clear the program settings. Open Terminal from the Applications/Utilities folder. Then paste this line
defaults delete com.belightsoft.ArtText2.plist
and press the Return key.
3. Reboot your computer.
4. Install Art Text.

If you downloaded the program from our site, be ready to input your license code. This is not necessary if you are using the App Store edition.

Hi Nick,

I have done all steps you mentioned in your message.
Result still gives me a 64x64 px png file.

But...
I think found the culprit!

Art Text is installed on my MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Late 2013) and attached is a 27" Thunderbolt Display.
When I create a 32x32 px icon using the MacBook Pro Retina display, the exported png-file is 32x32 px.
When I create a 32x32 px icon using the 27" Thunderbolt Display, the exported png-file is 64x64 px.

We have just released Art Text 3. It would be helpful if you could check if the problem still exists in the new version. You can run the program in the trial mode for this test.
