Hi all,
I wrote today a little app using Automator (a really usefull technology from Mac OS X 10.4).
(a kind of answer to a recent post from lfrohling)
What can it do?
- resize image(s) (all formats recognized by QuickTime) from (multiple) folder(s)
- you choose the new size (you can also use percentage)
- copy images to new folder (if you wish)
- and open the resized images with Image Tricks (why not ;^))
- you can cancel processus at any time (so if you want resize 100 000 images (;^), you don't have to open them in IT!)
What can it not do?
- resize image without preserving image proportions (you set the width not the width and the height) so if you set the new size to 240 pixels, with a 1280x960 you'll got a 240x180 as with a 2048x1536 or a 640x480 but with a 768x507 (?) you'll got a new 240x158 image.
- resize folder(s), you have to select content of folders, not the folder itself.
So, if you have nested folders and want to preserve the hierarchy, you have to work one folder at a time :^(
I don't know how to avoid this.
I'm not really a Automator "Wizard" (;^)), this one is just my third one.
All it uses is Automator.app and Preview.app (but it doesn't open them).
Fell free to download it at
http://jjboutaud.free.fr/intaglio_tutorials/some_tools/resizeImagesApp.zip
It's an 125 KB zipped archive.
It's localized in several languages (French, English, Spain, Italian, Chinese…).
To use it, double-click on it (you may make an alias and put it on your Desktop.
Caution:
You may select/create another folder before copying your original images and resizing them.
So, please use this option unless you know what you do!
This app is not Universal but I may upload the source file (workflow) and Intel Mac users could make an Universal version themself.
Feel free to make me any remarks, suggestions…
Friendly
Tool to resize batch of images…
