Hi Nick:

I upgraded to Swift Publisher 3 via the Apple App store and today I also purchased Image Tricks Pro. However I cannot seem to find how to make them work together.

When I edit a graphic in Swift Publisher it opens the Lite version.

For now, when I need to edit a graphic I have to open it in Image Tricks Pro, save it to a director, return to Swift Publisher and insert it as I would any other graphic.

Is there any way to set Swift Publisher to open Image Tricks when I need to edit a graphic directly from the program?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi MHiggins3
Here's the way to edit images used in a SP3 (or other BeLight applications too) document in Image Tricks standalone application (not the plugin that is embedded in SP):
#1. Firstly, you need to open this image in IT
#2. then you need to copy and paste it in a SP document
#3. from there, if you "double-click" on the image, this will open it in IT
#4. each time you save it from IT, this image will be updated in SP
This is an Apple technology named "LinkBack".
Note that "Edit Image…" item from the contextual menu will continue to open image in the plugin version of IT.
Caution, it seems that all this is "slightly" buggy with SP3:
- image pasted in SP3 seems to be invisible until you re-open it in IT
- there's no "Edit in Image Tricks" item in Edit menu (this menu item is present in SP2)
- there's no "Edit in Image Tricks" item in contextual menu (it exists in SP2)
Hope this helps.

Hello Jean-Jacques:

Thank you so much for the assistance, I appreciate it very much. I followed your directions and everything seems to be working as you describe.

Do you know if there are any plans to integrate the programs more seamlessly - that is, so that an image edited in Swift Publisher will open Image Tricks Pro directly?

Thanks again,

Mike

Hi,

Swift Publisher contains own copy of Image Tricks tools. The Image Tricks application doesn't replace the built-in image editor and generators. We don't plan to improve the integration between Swift Publisher and Image Tricks.

Hi
First of all, I made a mistake: LinkBack is not an Apple technology but comes from Nisus: http://linkback.nisus.com/about/
It's a client/server technology that uses pasteboard to send/retrieve data.
Here, IT is the server and SP (or DC, BCC, L&A) is the client.
I can't say if there's a way to make this more "friendly", especially by starting the process from the client (SP) without the need to open then copy images from the server (IT).
Maybe Nick and BeLight developers could have a better response.

Hi

We don't plan to change the way SP, BCC, DC and L&A work with IT via LinkBack.

Seems to be fixed with v3.01 (build 491)

- there's no "Edit in Image Tricks" item in contextual menu (it exists in SP2)

Nick, these two items are uncorrectly named "Edit in Art Text 2".

Jean-Jacques:

Thank you for this - it is good news.

Since I purchased the update in the App store I am awaiting the arrival of v.3.01.

Thanks again.

I'm wrong (unfortunetaly): this is a 10.6 only bug and it's not fixed in v3.01.
Sorry for this false good news.

These two items are not working under 10.6.

Jean-Jacques,

Thank you. I've added the problems related to the Image Tricks and LinkBack to our bug list.
