Cropped image file larger than original

Postby Granville4879 » July 6th, 2015, 3:38 am

Hello,

I am using ver 3.8.1 on an Apple Mac running OSX 10.7.5. I have a photo in JPG format which was 3264x2448 and which I cropped to 2103x2276. The original file size was 556Kb and the cropped photo is 626Kb. I left the setting under options as default. :?:

Can anyone tell me why?

Is there a way to save the file so that it would be the same as, or smaller than, the original? :?

You might need to adjust JPEG quality using slider available by clicking "Options…" button. Not only size matters but the quality (compression loss) level.

Thank you, Ajax.

That is a good point. I am afraid that I had just assumed the software would default to the same compression level as the original file.
