Event of the Year 2005

Best comments on "Tiger release"

Lawrence:

It changed my life. It made things so much easier. Hit F12 and BAM my Widgets pop up. I have my weather, stocks, stickies and whatever else i feel like i want to add to them. And you know what, %99.8 of the widgets are FREE. Hehehe, it makes me giggle like a lil school girl.

Basden:
Tiger is amazing! By far the best OS ever.

Keith Williamson:
Being over one year ahead of the next version of Windows is the most significant event in my opinion. Of course, the first release of an Intel based Mac will rock it again.

Michael Vicente:
Rock solid stability makes me more productive.

Hazel Lew:
Tiger was fabulous! I tell my friends that it brought the biggest array of new and exciting abilities and most of all, terrifically easy to use. I think you call it intuitive. I call it a miracle.

Ray Barr:
I think that the release of Tiger is the biggest event of the year because with it came Smart Folders and Spotlight. These two tools both help to change the way you use a Mac. Spotlight has made it much easier to find files that are lost and Smart Folders help to organize files so I can find them quickly.

Jancak Vitezslav:
i like tiger, i like dashboard, a like apple.

Bobbie Batchelder:
Tigar is the greatest. I love the widgets.

Eddy Sparks:
When deciding on the most significant event in 2005, I almost went with Apple announcing the move to Intel. But after careful consideration, I decided that the elease of Apple's new and streamlined OSX platform Tiger would have to be the most influential product to date. You can attribute Apple's recent success to the Halo surrounding the popularity of the iPod, or you may consider the move to Intel, the next evolutionary step in it stransformation to the worlds most sought after choice in personal computing. But no matter how you look at it, OSX Tiger is making it all happen.
Not only will Tiger be the heart and soul of the new Mac line of Intel driven desktops and portables, it is responsible for the secure, easy to use, plug and play, look and feel that Apple is famous for. Apple just Works!
Behind the scenes, OSX is what brings together an otherwise useless hodgepodge of hardware stuffed into an inclosure all powered by what will soon be an Intel processor.
With Tiger, Apple added many new features and enhancements. Spotlight, an extensive desktop utility that searches content on your computer at lightning quick speeds. Dashboard which provides hundreds of mini applications called widgets to provide information at your fingertips and Automator streamlines repetitive tasks with a push of a button.
These are just a few examples and reasons why Apple's OSX Tiger is the worlds most sophisticated operating system and why it should be hailed as Apple's biggest accomplishments of 2005.

Jason Kent:
tiger was a great leap ahead in many different areas and technologies, even not seen at the typical user level.

Gary Straitz:
As it is with everything in life, you can do things the hard way or the easy way. Apple just gets it right. I wish my Windows friends would remove their blinders.

Pete Ware:
To me, the release of Tiger is a significant event. In the overall picture, this is THE operating system for most Macintosh computers. Without this, the Apple ease of use (not to mention a pleasure to the eyes) system wouldn't be possible. I watch (and struggle) with Windows at friends & work. I can't but help wonder why more people don't switch.
I have talked some friends into buying a Mac purely on the fact that the OS is so much easier to use. Tiger shows this still to be true.
One friend was looking for a new computer, but picked Dell, solely due to the fact that Yahoo Messenger does voice. It didn't come on the new computer - she hasn't installed it - she doesn't miss it. But she does have one butt-ugly, difficult to use OS.
She does like the look of Tiger and of the Mac in general.
Where would the Macintosh line of computers be without an OS like Tiger to takes us to the next platform in computing?

Jim Bellomo:
The Intel story is really for next year. We'll see if it is as good as we hope. Who cares about Boston Expo, Nano and Video iPods are great but not just part of the Macintosh world. And no one will remember Xbox after the next version of Playstation comes out.

Bob:
Who would have thought that you could make OS X even better. Spotlight in itself makes this the best product of the year!

Stan Reinike:
Tiger took Apple way ahead of MS's upcoming release-and forced Bill Gates to copy some of Tiger's features.

Aaron Ranney:
If it wasn't for Tiger, Apple would be the one trying to catch up to Windows!

Andre Murnieks:
Announcements, releases and demonstrations do not compare to getting what seems like new computer every time a cat pounces.

Steve Burnham Jr:
Because Tiger is giving windows users a reason to use Macs besides the ipod

Damian Simmons:
Tiger, the most stable and almost most-user-friendly OS ever has made using a Mac that much more enjoyable. I'm especially happy that I've never had to lose my laptop for 2+ school weeks like four of my PC using colleagues

Jon Mark Hancock:
While Intel deal may be a biggie for the future, it didn't deter me from buying a PB for myself or my daughter this year, and planning a G5 system soon. Tiger, OTOH, had many fundamental improvements, some very apparent, some more subtle, which make it the best OSX yet by far. I'm a bit of an OS junkie, and still have a BeOS system, but Tiger is by far the best desktop and notebook OS around.

Jim Sparks:
Tiger has become the OS that Steve promised 5 years ago. Tiger is an operating system that works with you, not against you!

George Distler:
We love Mac.

Casey Fipps:
Tiger is clearly another incremental improvement for Mac OS X, and despite having little room above Panther to improve, it manages to make a compelling upgrade case.

Michel McDowell:
Will I'm sure a lot of Mac Afficionados would say that anything Pod-related is of primary importance in the Mac world, its neverthe less important to point out that without a steady foundation it pretty hard to build a house. And the foundation of our Apple World is Tiger. Since its release it (quiety) shown those of the evil empire, that is not necessary to over-develope a system to the point that its unusable, but rather how simple elegance can fit into our everyday lives and work flow, thereby making a computer not only functional, but Funn! My vote is of Tiger!

Don Busenbark:
Tiger is the most innovative OS to date. It rocks!!!

Erkki K Kangas:
Everything else on your list affected only select few (except Intel, of course, but that's in the future).

Pat Mrizek:
Tiger... for me, that was the big thing this year... a long line at the Apple Store, installing the Family Pack on my Macs, playing with everything, making Dashboard a part of my daily routine... very big for me. The Intel Inside is going to be next year's huge deal, but for now it is not affecting the majority of us Mac users (although they timed it right... I am in the market for a new Mac next year). I have no personal need for a Nano or iPod video, I've never been to Boston, I need far more power than a Mac Mini, and the Xbox presentation only proved that Unca Steve Jobs was right all along, so none of that did a thing for me. And after all, my world revolves around me, right?
Merry Christmas!

Phil Esposito:
Having just updated from a G3 iMac running OS 8.6 I believe that Tiger is the most influential because it is the thing that most affects we "regular" users— those who may or may not read Mac websites but who also don't have a problem with the Finder or the Dock the way some Mac power users or Mac "afficianados" do. We use our Mac for everyday computing and simply enjoy the experience and Tiger has given us the best consumer desktop experience currently available. Having to use Windows at work everyday it is simple a great pleasure to sit in front of the Mac OS and I'm sure Windows converts feel the same way.
