Swift Publisher

iCreateWe're excited about Swift Publisher 2

iCreate issue 42, 2007

Whether it's greeting cards, calendars or even menus you want, this click application has it all.

Swift Publisher IconWhen it comes to page layout on a Mac, there are a number of options. While the pros turn to Adobe InDesign or Quark XPress, those looking for a gentler learning curve opt for Apple's own Pages or Adobe's PageMaker. As well as these there's another serious contender available, in the form of BeLight Software's Swift Publisher. Now in its second version, Swift Publisher has a look and feel of Apple's Pages, but it also has its differences. The first is the great selection of artwork available by default in the application's left-hand pane. Organized by genre, the images are far higher quality than the clipart one would expect from lesser programs. The downloadable version of the software features over 1100 images and 90 themes, covering everything from food to farm animals. While Pages offers an objects organization system that involves moving elements backward and forward on the page, a clever touch in Swift Publisher is the Foreground and Background tabs, which nicely separate standing items and page details. Let's take a look at the key features of BeLight's Swift Publisher 2 and show a couple of techniques for page layout in this rival to Pages.

Step-by-step

Swift Publisher Screenshotone Start by clicking on the Camera button, above the image browser pane in Swift Publisher, to display your iPhoto library. Next, select the album you'd like to choose images from. Now select an image in the open template before clicking on an image in the browser to replace the default with your own photo.

two With the new image selected, click the Inspector button to bring up the Inspector pane and click on the Text tab. From here, check the Object causes wrap box and choose the type of wrap you require from the boxes below. Now experiment with the wrap by moving your image within the text, to see how the characters respond.
