Booklet Printing

Printing booklets reorders pages for printing them on two-folded paper, which is twice bigger than the original page. Swift Publisher does this automatically when the Imposition option is enabled in the Advanced Print Settings dialog.

The program automatically calculates number of paper sheets to print the booklet. If the number of pages in your document is not divisible by 4, blank pages will be added at the end of the booklet.

Swift Publisher Print Dialog will set paper format twice bigger than page format set in the Document Setup dialog. Size of paper needed for booklet printing can be revised in the Advanced Print Settings dialog.

The picture below illustrates how Swift Publisher reorders pages.
For example, if the document consists of 8 pages, 2 twice bigger sheets will be printed.

To print the booklet on a duplex printer, set the Two-Sided option to Short-Edged Binding in the Layout section of the standard print dialog.

Planning the Booklet

Booklet creation does not differ from creating ordinary multi-page documents but some details should be considered from the beginning.

Paper Size

Before beginning your work on a booklet you should set paper format in the Document Setup dialog. Make sure that your paper format is twice smaller than the paper format you will print on. For example, to print the booklet on the Letter format, make the document on 1/2 Letter.

Left and Right Pages

Facing pages in the booklet usually have mirrored design because it is common to make different width of inner and outer page margins and place page numbers on the outer side.

The program does not make this automatically. So, if left and right pages in your booklet should have different (mirrored) layout, use left and right master pages.

Exporting the Booklet to PDF

An alternative way to save your document to PDF file is to start printing. When the standard print dialog comes up, click the PDF button and choose the Save as PDF option. Export to PDF via printing lets you make a booklet, which is impossible by using the File > Export menu command.
