Working with Roofs

Adding and Deleting Roofs

The program lets you add auto roofs and custom roofs. You can even use them together on the same floor. In this case, a custom roof takes the specified area, and an auto roof takes the rest. It is recommended that you use auto roofs wherever it is possible.

Adding an Auto Roof

To add or delete auto roofs, use the Building tab of the Inspector.

Adding roofs

To add a roof on the story above the current one, tap on button (1). If this story doesn't exist, it will be added automatically. To add a roof on the current story, tap on button (2). The program will open the Roof Assistant where you can choose the roof type (e.g. Gable or Mansard).

Once a roof has been added, you can change its properties using the Inspector. To change the roof type using the Roof Assistant, select the Change Roof Type command in the context menu of the roof.

After a roof has been created, the corresponding button in the Inspector changes its function from adding to removing.

To convert an auto roof to a custom roof, choose Make Roof Editable from the context menu of the roof. The reverse operation is not supported.

Adding a Custom Roof

To add a custom roof, activate the Roof tool in the tool bar. Then draw a rectangle on the floor plan where the roof should appear. If the roof outline should be something different from rectangle, you'll be able to change the outline after adding the roof. The program will open the Roof Assistant where you can choose the roof type.

To change the shape or size of a custom roof on the floor plan, select the roof and drag its corner handles. To add a new corner (also called "contour point"), bring up the context menu and select Add Contour Point. To delete a contour point, bring up its context menu and choose Remove Contour Point.

You can set up the properties of a custom roof in the Inspector. To change the roof type using the Roof Assistant, select the Change Roof Type command in the context menu of the roof.

Deleting a Roof

To delete an auto roof, select the story where the roof is located, and tap on button (2) in the Inspector.

The roof will also be removed if you delete the story it rests on.

To delete a custom roof, select the Delete command from its context menu.

The Roof Assistant

The Roof Assistant helps you add a standard roof to your building.

1 – Roofing templates.

2 – Soffit type. You can also change it in the Object Properties tab of the Inspector.

3 – Roof orientation. You can turn the roof in 90 degree increments.

4 – Preview of your project with the added roof. You can rotate the picture with the mouse, or by dragging the image on the touch screen. To zoom in or out, use the mouse wheel, or gestures on the touch screen.

5 – Move the roof one story up or down. This feature is available only for custom roofs.

The Roof Assistant opens up when you add a new roof, and when you run the Change Roof Type command.

In fact, the Change Roof Type command recreates the roof from scratch. This means that the materials applied to the original roof will be replaced with default ones. All objects installed into the roof (e.g. windows or dormers) can disappear. The same happens when you call the Make Roof Editable command. So, use these commands as early in your workflow as possible.
