Working with Materials

Managing Materials using the Library and Palette

Applying Materials to Objects

Applying a material directly:

  1. Display the corresponding category on the Palette.
  2. Drag and drop the material from the Palette onto an object in the 3D view. You need to drop the material to the exact part of the object you wish to repaint.

To apply a material using Favorites:

  1. Open the material library.
  2. Drag and drop a material from the library into the Favorites category on the Palette. If the desired material is already in the Palette, skip to Step 3.
  3. Close the library using the Back button.
  4. Drag and drop the material from Favorites onto an object in the 3D view. You need to drop the material to the exact part of the object you wish to repaint.

Identically, you can replace a material by dropping it onto a material preview in the Object Materials tab of the Inspector. This method is useful if the part of the object you are aiming for is invisible from the current point of view, or too small.

Managing Materials in Favorites

To add a material to the Favorites category, drag it from the library and drop it onto the Palette. You can choose the place for the new material among others.

To relocate a material, drag it off the Palette and drop to a new place.

To delete a material from Favorites, open its contextual menu and select the Delete command. To delete all materials, choose Clear All in the contextual menu of any material.

Managing Materials in the Library

The program doesn't allow you to modify or remove default materials or categories.

There is no direct command to create a new category because the program doesn't support empty categories. A new one can be created when you select the Paste To command in the app bar, or when you choose Add To Category command in the contextual menu of a material in the Palette. You need to scroll to the end of the category list and select New Category….

To delete a custom category, tap on the gear icon, and select Delete Category in the contextual menu. The program removes a custom category automatically when you delete all objects from it.

To rename a custom category, select Rename Category in its contextual menu.

To select a material, swipe up or down across its icon. To deselect it, swipe again.

You can copy and paste materials from one category to another. Additionally, you can cut and delete materials you have added to standard or custom categories. Select a material to show the respective commands in the app bar.

Imported materials are automatically added to the Imported category.

Adding Materials from a Project to the Library

You can copy a material from any object in your project, right to the library. To do this:

  1. Open both the 3D view and Palette.
  2. On the Palette, display the category where a new material should be saved.
  3. In the 3D view, locate the object with the material you wish to copy.
  4. Tap on the Pick to Palette tool in the Palette. It is then added and placed in the leftmost position.
  5. Tap on the part of the object with the desired material in the 3D view to add its material to the current material category.

To deactivate the Pick to Palette tool, tap on it again.
