The basic conception of Get Backup: setup once and use always. This means, you should specify files or folders for archiving and backup method, and when a new backup should be created. After that you can refer to this backup in order to restore the data from it or track the current status. You can fully control the process and make changes in a backup project at any time.
While working with backups, you pass through phases: creation, setting up, building and restoring.
At creation phase, you specify files and folders for including in archive and location for the backup archive.
At setting up phase, you backup method, specify which files should be excluded from the archive; whether files should be compressed, and whether the archive size should be limited (for instance, for the further record on CD or transfer by e-mail). You can also set up a schedule for automatic update your archives.
Building is a direct saving of backup files to backup archives. It can be done automatically on the pre-set schedule or by the user's command.
Restoring is copying of the saved files from the backup archive to the original or another location on the hard disk. It is executed only by user's command.
The main window of Get Backup consists of four parts: the toolbar (1 in the picture), the list of backup projects (2), backup content table (3) and backup properties panel (4).

The toolbar includes the following buttons:
New Backup Project – creates a new backup project;
Backup Now – starts creating a backup archive;
Stop – finishes any running task;
Restore – restores files back to the initial hard drive location from the chosen archive of the current backup;
Add Files – allows adding files to the current backup project;
Remove Files – removes files selected in the backup project;
Log – shows or hides the log drawer.
The list (2) displays all the backup projects opened or created by the current user. To choose the needed backup, click on it in the list. Right under the list of backups, the pop-up list of the built backup archives is located. It defines from which archive restoring can be done. For more details, see the Managing Backups and Managing Backup Archives sections.
The backup content table displays files and folders included in the current backup (or in the first one, if more than one backup have been selected). For more details, see the Managing Files in a Backup Project section.
Backup properties panel contains four tabs and allows setting up the location for the current backup (some safe place for storing archives and the accompanying information file), various backup parameters, and a schedule for automating its regular building. For more details, also see the Backup Properties section.
Get Backup allows you to start creating your first backup right away:
Click New Backup Project on the toolbar. In the file dialog, the program will ask you to choose files and folders to be included in a new backup. Select files and folders and click Choose. A new item will appear in the backup list. It will be named as the first chosen file or folder. Later on, you can rename your backup (see the Managing Backups section). In the content table, you will see all the files and folders prepared for backup.
Then, you can specify the location for the future backup archives and backup information file. For this, choose a disk in the Destination pop-up list on the Backup Destination tab. Then specify a folder by clicking the Choose button. If you skip this step, the program will ask you for this information later.
