The Preferences dialog contains settings which are common for all backups.
To access the dialog, choose Get Backup > Preferences in the menu.

Logs detail level sets how detailed messages in the log file are.
Save backup info using lets set up the format of backup information files: Binary format or XML format. It is recommended using the Binary format as it is better for program performance.
Enable schedule is an option for automated backup archive creation. To set up how frequently backups should be created, use the controls in the Options section of the backup properties.
By setting the Use Agent option you start an agent-program GetBackupAgent for tracking the schedule. When the agent is activated, there is no need to have the Get Backup application running all the time, the agent performs backing up your data. Otherwise, you should not quit Get Backup.
Collect logs on hard disk enables saving all the log-messages in a file on the hard drive.
The Clear logs folder button lets you remove all the log-files created by the previous work sessions of the program.
The Reveal in Finder button opens the folder containing log files in a Finder window.
Launch as "System Administrator" – give the program access to files, folders and actions allowed to a system administrator only. The option is activated after the re-opening the program. You will be asked to enter administrator's password.
Use custom folder for temporaries lets you choose a folder for temporary files. Normally, the system folder is used. Using a custom folder may be helpful when:
