Business Card Composer. Design and Print Excellent Business Cards.

Business Card Composer News - April 30th, 2004

Dear friends,

Here is what you can read in this issue:
• Business Card Composer updated to v2.2
• Online print shop delayed
• Tip: Preparing your card designs for professional printing
• Tip: Vertical text on your cards

BUSINESS CARD COMPOSER UPDATED TO V2.2
We have released another free update that includes Japanese localization, new functionality and bug fixes.

Here is the list of main changes:
• Japanese localization has been included. This became possible due to our long-term partnership with Act2 - the Japanese distributor of Business Card Composer:
http://www.act2.com/
• Support for new Avery business card paper formats.
• A new command Align Centers was added to align objects to their centers.
• Insertion of large images was improved.
• A few of minor improvements and various bugs fixed.

Also, we had to modify the program's icon and some artwork on the web site because of legal claims from AOL (www.aol.com). We were surprised to hear that AOL thinks that Business Card Composer's icon looked very similar to the AOL's Running Man logo (the yellow man on the iChat icon). However, our team decided to spend our time on more useful things, than long litigation with AOL:) So, avoid using yellow men in your images or logos so that you're not pressed by AOL that booked all rights to yellow men worldwide!

You can find the full list of changes here:

This update is free to all owners of previous versions. You can download it here:

ONLINE PRINT SHOP DELAYED
Though we were planning to enable online ordering in this update, it took us longer than expected. However, you can still have your designs printed professionally - there are lots of printing companies on the Web, that accept custom designs for upload. See our Tips in the end of this newsletter to learn how to prepare your design properly.

TIPS: PREPARING YOUR CARD DESIGNS FOR PROFESSIONAL PRINTING
Did you know that in Business Card Composer you can make designs that will be accepted by most print shops? This article will tell you how:

TIPS: VERTICAL TEXT ON YOUR CARDS
So far, you have no direct way to enter vertical text in Business Card Composer, but there is a workaround:

1. Create a blank business card. To create vertical text on the horizontal card layout, use the vertical card layout. In File / Card Properties menu choose Vertical orientation.
2. Create horizontal text object and place it where you want your vertical text on the ready card to appear.
3. Export this document into PDF format without bleeds (menu File -> Export, in the Export dialog press the Options button and turn off "Use bleeds")
4. Create the new document and insert your saved PDF with the text object (use the File / Place Image menu or the Insert Image button on the toolbar).
5. Display the inserted object behind all other objects (menu Format -> Send to Back) and rotate it to 90 degrees. Then the text will be located when you wanted it to be.

Wish you business cards made on a Mac to be marketable!

Best Regards,
Helen Nersesova
