What is Business Card Composer? What does it do?
Business Card Composer is a tool for creating and printing professional-looking business cards. The program contains a library of business card templates and clipart. You can print a template design right away. Alternatively, you can edit any template, or create your own design from scratch.
On what Macs does Business Card Composer work?
It will run on any Mac with Mac OS X v.10.4.11 and higher.
What should I think of before getting started with Business Card Composer?
- Review how you would like to present your business.
- Think of words you use to describe your business.
- Choose images which match your business.
- Remember: You shouldn't overdo it. Do not use unreadable fonts, spotty images, or incompatible colors.
- Remember: A business card is there to represent your company.
What if I don't have any of my own images?
You have an option to search and download images from the Web, or use the internal clipart library. Business Card Composer contains 1,000+ clipart images (40,000+ high-quality images with Extras Pack) sorted into categories. Among them there are vector images scalable to any size and photo objects with transparent background that can be applied to any picture to create diverse designs. You'll surely find something to match your taste.
Where can I find my additional clipart after installing the Extras Pack?
After successfully installing the Extras Pack, images will automatically be added to BeLight image library. Go to Clipart tab in the Source Panel (left of the canvas) to preview and use these pictures.
How To Start and Create Cards
Where can I find the registration code?
Owners of the download version of the program get the registration (license) code in the purchase confirmation e-mail.
Owners of the boxed version receive the code inside the product package. The code is printed on the back side of the CD envelope.
The license code you gave me isn't being accepted by my program. How can I register it?
Carefully copy and paste your license code into the License dialog. Or, if you have the boxed edition, enter it manually. Make sure you don't use the 'O' character, type only the 0 (zero) digit in the license code. Please take note that there is also no capital letter 'I', but only the 1 (one) digit in the license code.
How can I make vertical business cards? Can I change horizontal cards into vertical ones?
We advise you to use the Assistant. Vertical card designs are displayed in the Vertical category of the Card Type section. You can preview the card to the right. If you wish to turn a horizontal design into a vertical one, change the orientation to 'portrait' in the Document tab of the Inspector. Then reposition all fields and images manually.
Can I display my images in the Clipart Panel?
Yes. Select Window > Import > Custom Folder in the menu. Navigate to the folder you want and its contents will be displayed in the left part of the document window, the same place as the built-in clipart collection.
My logo is an .eps file. How can I add it to my card?
You can simply drag and drop the logo file into Business Card Composer, or you can use Insert > Image menu item for this.
Can I create my logo in Business Card Composer?
Business Card Composer integrates with Art Text, an application from BeLight Software that acts as a tool for creating vector graphics. Using Art Text to create graphics for use in Business Card Composer does not require purchasing a license code. We like to call it a bonus app.
How can I match the color of one object to the color of another?
Matching colors in Business Card Composer is actually quite simple. Let's say you have two triangles. One of them is green, and you want to match the other triangle to it. Simply select the one that is not green at click on the color button in the Fill & Shadow tab of the Inspector. Then click the magnifying glass next to the largest color block and place the mouse over the green one and click the left button. The other object automatically takes on the color of the other. Pretty cool, huh?
Printing Cards
When I print cards with background images, there's a slight imprecision in print. What should I do?
To print business cards with a design taking up the whole area of the card, use paper with spacing between cards. The card is automatically stretched an extra millimeter. Slight imperfection in positioning is covered by this extra space. More about business card paper.
Can I print my cards in the print shop?
Sure. You can have your business cards printed and delivered to you by an online print shop. After you select the “Order Cards Online...” item from the File menu, you get into the web page with the instructions on how to prepare your file and submit it to the online print shop. You can also print your cards at a local print shop. Note that various print shops require different settings for the cards you send them, so make sure you check the requirements of your local print shop before submitting your design there.
The paper I use is not in the list of supported card stocks. What should I do?
Business Card Composer supports custom paper layouts (size and arrangement of cards on the page) for regular and CD-R business cards. So, you can print cards of non-standard form or add support for new card stocks. To configure a custom layout, choose File > Change Layout. Switch to the Custom tab.

Is there an easy way to print the same card for several people?
Sometimes you may need to print just one card for a group of people, so all cards have the same design but contain different personal information (ID cards, badges, etc.). Choose File > Print for Several People… from the menu. The program will show a dialog where you can choose people from your Address Book for whom you want to print the cards.
How can I print professional-looking business cards?

Program Registration
Does the licensed version turn off the watermark “Business Card Composer Trial Version”?
This watermark will disappear immediately after you purchase the full licensed version of the software and register it with the license code. To register, please select Business Card Composer > License in the menu bar and enter your name and license code there.
How do I use Art Text with Business Card Composer?
The registered version of Business Card Composer allows you to use Art Text without purchasing an Art Text license. Note that Art Text much be installed on your computer to do this. Such use of Art Text complies with these rules:
- Art Text must be opened from a registered copy of Business Card Composer. To do this, use the Art Text toolbar button with the “a” icon.
- The graphics created in Art Text can be used only in Business Card Composer. To send an image from Art Text to Business Card Composer, click the “Link Back” button in the main window of Art Text.
- Art Text opened as a stand-alone application works in the demo mode. A watermark is placed over the exported image. To use Art Text as a stand-alone application, you must purchase a license.

Miscellaneous
The application quits unexpectedly. What should I do?
Please send a detailed description to our Technical Support of what you did before the crash and how the program behaved. Provide steps to repeat the problem. It will be helpful if you send us crash log(s) too. You can find them in ~(Your Home)/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/ as a file(s) with a filename starting with “BusinessCard Composer...”. There could be several files, so send us the latest one, which is usually related to the latest crash.
How can I uninstall Business Card Composer?
— Quit Business Card Composer.
— Delete Business Card Composer from the Applications folder.
— Delete com.belightsoft.BusinessCardComposer5.plist file from ~(User Home)/Library/Preferences/.
— Delete the folder com.belightsoft.BusinessCardComposer5 from from ~(User Home)/Library/Caches/.
— Delete the folder Business Card Composer from ~(User Home)/Library/Application Support/.
— If you don't have any other applications from BeLight Software installed, delete BeLight Software folder from (Macintosh HD)/Library/Application Support.
