To open the "Fill and Stroke" panel, use the Edit / Fill and Stroke menu command.
The image or text can be filled with:
Plain color.
Gradient.
Two colors will be used: the first one from the "Plain Color" box, the second one from "Gradient".
The Angle control sets the direction of color change. The dot on the control shows where the first color will be.
Texture.
An image from your hard disk can be used for filling.
The program can tile the image if necessary.
To match colors used in different effects, drag the color from one color box to another.
The Stroke effect makes text and the vector shape outlined.
The Count parameter sets the number of outlines. When Count is set to 1, color from the left box is used. If Count is 2 and greater, colors from two boxes will alternate with each other.

Width of the outline can be adjusted.
