alignment problems

October 18th, 2010, 7:30 am

I did test prints which showed that both sides align well. The program seems to have no reason to print the front and back in different way.

Check the paper tray. Probably the paper guides aren't tight enough and paper moves across when it is pulled in.

Also, try to print on plain paper front and back sides separately choosing Print Side - Front, and Print Side - Back. Will the problem repeat?

I have a related issue with 5.0.4. I an printing Avery business cards with the recommended 8371 template, 10 cards, 2 across. I have a background color. The cards on the right side always end up with a small amount of white and the bottom 2 have a considerable amount, perhaps 1/16 ' on the bottom. It does not show up this way in Preview, Mac OSX 10.6.4. but no matter how I adjust the background layer, I have this.

Hi Ashermusic,

1. Try to adjust the the guide in the printer tray exactly to the paper width.

2. Run the printer calibration procedure.

3. In the card design, extend the background image a little bit out of the card edge (say, by 1/16 in).

Hi Ashermusic,

Thanks for sending us your document. I haven't found anything that could cause the problem.

In your email, you wrote: "The Avery labels are 8879 and they say to use template 8371." We have templates for both paper types. So, you could use Avery 8879.

When you calibrated the printed, did you use the same paper and quality settings as for printing cards? If you calibrate in the draft mode but print at highest quality, the calibration won't be accurate.

Nick, I've finally given the program a try again and its still printing off on the second (or back) side. My shift is a quarter inch to the left. I'm using Avery 8869. Tried using plain paper. Front prints fine. Next printed Back AND ITS OFF. I am going to try making two files - one for the front and one for the back and see if that works. [It does.] Is there a different set of instructions for the back side? I'm using a Canon MP600. Otherwise, I can't use this program: I'm losing too much ink, paper, and time.

I just noticed that as you preview the cards in the preview pane of the Canon MP600 print screen the cards literally shift from side to side as you preview back and then the front. Have you noticed that? And that shift is the same shift that prints the back and front off.

BWDEOWULFF,

Your last post clarifies a lot. On my computer the front and back have different horizontal shift too.

I'll show this problem our developers.

I've found a workaround. Before printing, choose File > Change layout. Select another layout and return to the original one. Click OK. Then print.

Great. Thanks for the work around. I'll try it.
