1 nice card, 9 fuzzy print outs

I have a problem were the bottom right card is printed clearly, but the rest of the cards are slightly fuzzy. This condition occurs when:

* printing directly from BCC
* saving output as a pdf and printing via Preview.app

In both of the above cases:

* the on cards look great on screen.
* From two computers both running OS X 10.4.6
* To two printers HP LaserJet 2550 color and HP Laserjet 2200 DN

Finally, I tried opening the PDF in Adobe Reader and printing it. It took a LONG time for the job to print, but it came out looking great.

Here is a link to a test file:

Re: 1 nice card, 9 fuzzy print outs

Since two applications (BCC and Preview) make same printing output, the problem is not a Composer's bug or bug itself.

What paper did you use?
Paper with coating may slip and move irregularly when the printer feeds it.
I would try to print on plain paper for test.

Try this to set the "Print as raster image" check in the BCC print dialog but I am not sure this will help in your case.

Re: 1 nice card, 9 fuzzy print outs

* I tried glossy card stock, AND plain laser paper with the same results.

* The bottom right card is always PERFECT, the other 9 cards are all exactly flawed the SAME way.

* This is happening with printing to two different printers

* two different computers (printing to both printers).

* both directly from BCC and via pdf in Preview.app

If I print the SAME pdf via Adobe Reader, the print out is perfect regardless of the combination of printer/computer.

I feeling that this is a problem with Apple's PDF engine and/or something slightly out of spec from BCC (but for which Adobe Reader can compensate).

I also went back and created a completely new card in BCC, using a different template and get the same results.

Re: 1 nice card, 9 fuzzy print outs

Try this:
- Use File>Print>PDF>Save PDF as PostScript…
- then open the .ps file in Preview to get a .pdf one
- then print

If you do so, you can see that:
- your .pdf file is bigger than the pdf file from Export or Print>Preview
- PDF Version is 1.3 (PDF Version is 1.4 when exporting or preview)
To get the PDF Version of your document, use Command-I in Preview.

I often use this "trick" to get perfect files, opening the same in Preview and Acrobat Reader, especially when using shadows or opacity.
But, most of the time, in my case, problems occur (before using the trick above) when opening/printing documents with Acrobat Reader not Preview.

Hope this helps.
