The frustrating and long standing 'slow to print' issue has been rolled over from S3 with no improvement - selecting print results in a 20 second pause whilst the print dialogue box comes up, selecting print adds 30 seconds of spinning ball before sending instructions to the printer. Not good enough.

I made up the same file in SP2 - selecting print - instant dialogue box, selecting print sends file in about 3 seconds.

The 'original size' command being greyed-out bug has been carried over into SP4 - see thread 12692.

I still have to double click the pdf to open it in Image Tricks and then close it to stop it being greyed out. But, as before, it doesn't happen every time. - edit, it is happening every time.

Modified SP4 files do not retain their 'Open with' status or icon. An SP4 file once opened, worked on and saved changes its icon to SP2 and 'Open with' to SP2 and has to be manually changed in the Get Info box. This is another long standing issue - SP3 does a similar thing. As a result I have to open all files by manually dragging them onto their respective icon in the dock.

A simpler approach to the last post - open a new document in SP4, add to it, save, icon at top of document is SP2. Close. Double click on file - document opens in SP2 (blank, of course). This is longstanding bad behaviour.

When I open an SP4 file, edit it and save, I have to save it as a separate document (with the same name, and overwrite the original). Why is this? It doesn't happen in other programs or in SP2 or SP3. Why can't I keep the changes in the original document?

Open an existing SP3 A3 landscape file into SP4, change the paper size and orientation to A4 portrait, export pdf, open in Preview - it is A4 landscape, not portrait.

I'm experiencing some bizarre behaviour from the Text Format and Spacing Inspector. In fact, it's more like no behaviour at all.

Guess I need to be more specific.
I've updated to 4.0.1. Now the iPhoto issue is fixed but the font inspector isn't working on OS 10.10.5 but seems fine on 10.09.5.
Very odd!

Just tried all the commands in the font inspector in 10.8.5 and can't see any issues.

Hi

axys:

Modified SP4 files do not retain their 'Open with' status or icon. An SP4 file once opened, worked on and saved changes its icon to SP2 and 'Open with' to SP2 and has to be manually changed in the Get Info box. This is another long standing issue - SP3 does a similar thing. As a result I have to open all files by manually dragging them onto their respective icon in the dock.

Until the previous open-with app is present, another editor you may use remains just a temporary one. If you didn't choose SP 4 in the Info pane to be the default document editor, a previous version can still be linked with this file type.

When I open an SP4 file, edit it and save, I have to save it as a separate document (with the same name, and overwrite the original). Why is this? It doesn't happen in other programs or in SP2 or SP3. Why can't I keep the changes in the original document?

I couldn't reproduce this. Please check the title bar for the "Locked" notification. Maybe your document is read-only.

Open an existing SP3 A3 landscape file into SP4, change the paper size and orientation to A4 portrait, export pdf, open in Preview - it is A4 landscape, not portrait.

I managed to repeat this bug. Thanks for reporting it. I've passed the details to the programmers.

On my computer, version 4.0.1 on 10.10.5 works correctly. I tested through all controls on the Text tab of the Inspector. Please give more details:
1. Does the Text tab look correctly if you open a new blank document?
2. Will anything wrong happen if you add some text and try to edit it?
3. Are there any particular controls that behave incorrectly? How they work and how you expect they should work?

OK Nick.
The Text Inspector looks as expected.
If I draw a text box and insert text the following happens:
Colour works as expected.
If I move the Font Size slider, the text changes size but the slider snaps back to 10.0pt. When I click on the incremental upper arrow it snaps to 11.0 then back to 10.0. The bottom one snaps to 9 then back to 10.
If I click on the Fonts button, it brings up the fonts palette which functions as expected.
Alignment works as expected.
The Spacing sliders all have 3 positions only - min, zero and maximum. Setting to any other position makes them snap back to zero. Clicking on either arrow changes them to 1,00pt and then back to zero.
Object causes wrap seems to work ok.

Font sliders in the Inspector and in the Apple Font Inspector both work ok for me in 10.8.5. Perhaps you have a corrupt font in the System which can lead to all sorts of problems.

I've tested this on numerous occasions and on two different Macs, both 10.8.5. It is a consistent behaviour. Create a new document, add something to it, save with a name, close. Open, edit, close - a dialogue box says 'do you want to save the changes', click 'save' - warning that the file already exists - I can only either overwrite it or change the name. The same thing happens if I do command-s or just click on the close button. In addition, there is no black dot in the red button to show unsaved changes.

The file is not locked or read only.

fonetico,

axys have a good idea. Which font was applied to your text. Try to adjust text with Helvetica or other standard font. How will the Inspector work this time?

Also please tell which type of text you worked with (regular, circular, vertical). They can behave in different way because the last two have some limitations.

axys,

Sorry, I still cannot repeat the issue on my computer. The only way to see the "file already exists" message is to choose Save As and select the folder containing the original document.

The programmers believe that the problem can be linked with the presence of two versions of Swift Publisher (3 and 4) on the computer at the same time. If this is what causes the problem on your computer, it's worth to try this. Compress the version of SP which in not in use (e.g. SP 3) and delete the program itself. Then reboot the computer. After this, right-click on an SP document in Finder and select Open With. Make sure that Swift Publisher 3 is not listed there any more. Then check if the problem still exists.

Also make sure that you have SP 4.0.1.

Nick
