CD tray insert 2x per page

Postby Dead End King » October 18th, 2014, 8:53 pm

Is there any way to print 2x CD tray inserts per page? It's quite a waste of paper otherwise.

You can find a standard paper layout with two tray inserts such as "Ace Label 206 Series 2-UP CD Trayliner", or create a custom layout.

Thank you. Is there any way of printing it double sided? A double sided tray insert? My band is using clear jewel cases for our album, with a dedication to our late guitarist under the disc.

Yes, you can. But you need to consider several things.
1. Choose paper stock that allows to print on both sides. I saw paper that had printable coating only on one side.

2. You should use either a horizontally symmetric paper template, or create a mirrored template for the back side. This is needed because if the CD tray insert is closer to the left edge of paper, then once you flip the page, the design can get closer to the right side. The way you flip the page does matter, I mean vertically vs. horizontally.

3. You may need to calibrate your printer for each side separately to make them match. The reason is the same as for 2.

Making the front and back sides match can require several test prints. Use plain paper of the same size as one you are going to print your tray inserts on. To a blank design, add a small rectangle (1/2 inch per side). Move it to the center using Format > Center Horizontally and Vertically menu commands. In the Print dialog of Disc Cover, click on the Options button and enable printing cut marks and dotted outline. Print this design on two sides of the paper and look through it at some light source. If the rectangle and outlines coincide, you are ready to print the actual design. Some offset can be acceptable depending on your design.

Thank you for the reply. There's no template for this, like there is for the multipage booklets, eh? I got a new printer that prints 99% perfect auto duplex prints and so far it's been very accurate.

To create both sides of a tray insert, you need to add two design elements to your document: one for the front and another for the back.

Since the program doesn't have the duplex printing feature for tray inserts, you can print the front side of one or several paper sheets, then flip them and print the second side.
