Help drawing a 3-floors house with attic

Postby eugene78 » August 29th, 2017, 12:52 am

Hello,

I'm trying to model this house and need some help drawing the 2 floors above ground floor.
This house has 3 floors (ground floor + 1st & 2nd), with the 2nd floor located within the attic.

1. Should I draw the ground floor + 1st floor and then add the roof, or draw 3 floors and then add the roof?
2. What height should I make the wall for the 1st and 2nd floors?
3. How should I draw the roof with uneven length on the front side?

Thanks for your help !

Eugène

Hi

A similar roof was discussed in another post:

There are some posts with question marks instead of text (a text encoding issue). Please scroll down that thread below the unreadable part.

Hello again,

Thanks for your first help: after some serious head-scratching I finally succeeded to draw the house with the correct shapes including roof shape (gable), loft floor and dormers.
However I'm only able to properly manage the ground floor and first floor (loft).
I don't succeed to add the second floor, which should obviously also be a smaller loft floor.

Currently the first floor doesn't have a ceiling and extends all the way up to the roof.
If I try to add the second story using the "Add story above current" from the first floor, the roof shape is messed up.
I also tried to add a custom ceiling & floor but didn't succeed either.

I'm quite sure this second floor (loft) is a rather common situation, but I can't figure out how to design it properly in Live Home 3D -- despite reading the online help and watching a few video tutorials.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello,

I managed to design the overall house as shown in the previous screenshots, however I'm still blocked to build the 2nd floor in Live Home 3D.

In my current project, I have the ground floor + 1st floor and roof.
The 1st floor extends all the way up to the roof, instead I need to make it with a 2.5m height and add the 2nd floor.

I cannot succeed to add the 2nd floor while preserving the current roof structure.

Can you please show me the correct way to do this in Live Home 3D?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Eugène,

I feel your pain ;-). We've just bought a house and I've modelled our current house with Live Interior 3D before, so I though I'd do it again. Upgraded to Live Home 3D Pro and all...

Long story short, I've found a way to model a three story house with a roof that starts at the 1st floor at one side and at the 2nd floor at the other side. The trick is to start at ground floor, then draw a roof on a part of that floor and make it a "Shed" roof type. Then move to the 2nd floor and add a floor on that. Remove the side of the Shed roof by setting it to "hole". Add walls to the 2nd floor. And repeat for the 3rd floor.

I can imagine this is hard to follow, so I made some screen captures that I will post next.

I also had a go at your project. I added a second story and added a floor. Then I changed that wall types of the 1st floor to "story" instead of "loft". Then I had to make the roof editable because some holes started to appear. Lots of fiddling and tweaking and I came up with this:

https://1drv.ms/u/s!AjDJn0yCBrUYg4Utk86AsshrVCE3eA

This OneDrive link will expire in 14 days, by the way.

Now, on to a "tutorial post"

Best regards,
Donald.

OK, now on a modest tutorial for creating a three story home with a roof from 1st floor on one side and from the 2nd on the other.

I start of with drawing the ground floor. Just a plain rectangle, nothing fancy. Wait with adding windows and walls and doors until the basic structure of the home is done...

Now add a roof by using the "Create a rectangular custom roof" tool:

Draw the first part of the custom roof:

Next, choose the Shed roof type and click OK.

Next, set the angle. I'm using 60 here:

You'll end up with this. Now select the high wall by clicking on it:

No set the "Current Roof Segment" to Hole, and voila: it is open:

Now draw the 1st story floor using 2D layout:

Cover the entire ground floor area:

Now you end up with this in 3D view:

Now it's basically "rinse and repeat": draw a custom roof segment on the lower part of the 1st floor, select Shed type again and rotate it 180 degrees. Modify the angle until the roof parts meet. There will be some parts sticking out on both sides of the roof. I've not figured out how to solve that, by this is close enough for my purposes...

2nd roof segment

Now it's time again to draw a floor on the 2nd story in 2D mode. I start out by covering the whole area, then switch to 3D view to learn the floor is poking through the roof. Time to "heuristically" move the floor boundaries until it stays within the roof.

We're getting there...

Now, I needed the top floor roof to start 1m above the floor. The trick I used is adding a roof segment on that part of the roof, set the angle to 90 degrees and the height to 1m. Then adjust the angle again to have the roof parts meet again.

Screen Shot 2017-10-05 at 22.45.34.jpg
Add roof segment
Screen Shot 2017-10-05 at 22.45.34.jpg (129.42 KiB) Viewed 211 times

And finally select the vertical part and adjust the material using the dropper to match the brick wall:

Use dropper to change material

And voila, roof segments becomes brick wall:

Presto

And to wrap it up, this is the final result of building the basic structure (made the sides invisible to see both in and outsides):

I hope this makes some sense (it's getting late here). If you'd like to play around with this setup, you can download the file here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AjDJn0yCBrUYg4UuAs6q-W4_eZGdBQ (30 days valid)
