Hi,
I made a "rough draft" of what could be a site dedicated for swapping templates (or other files) to use with BeLight applications.
The url:
http://jjboutaud.free.fr/templates4belightapps/
To access to the content, you have to use a login/password:
- login = user
- password = belight
Keep in mind that it's a rough draft.
So, I have to
- make some (minor) cosmetic changes (translate all the content to English…), add real content to the "home" page, make a new header/footer
- change the url to something like "something.free.fr", so feel free to suggest good ideas (not too complex unlike the current one). The validation of this new url would take few days (2-3). The space available is 10 GB, but the filesize (of templates) can't be more than 2 MB.
I plan to use a registration system (with session?) for "uploaders" but a public acces to downloaders.
This site uses php and MySQL so I plan to store some infos about the registrated users ("uploades"):
- login/password
- a nickname
- a mail address (not necessary public) to confirm the registration, send mail when templates are downloaded…
I wish to keep all this simple but I want to use registration to manage uploaders to avoid some spams or other "*censored*" (sorry).
Notice that you can upload zip files (usefull to upload MF templates) and other files than templates (there's a category named Misc. for no templates files).

Feel free to make me all remarks/suggestions.
But keep in mind that this site will be "simple" until the beginning of November (2006 ;^) because I have really few free times now.

To the BeLight Team :
Can I use a url/sub domain name using the word belight?
Something like http://templates4belight.free.fr (this link doesn't work)

It seems that there's a problem when uploading Disc Cover templates :^(
For now, I don't know why (a problem with owner of files?).
So, try uploading some SP or zip files…
Sorry.

Sorry.

As there was a problem supporting filename with spaces in it, I convert space char to underscore ("_") until I found a better solution.
ex: Always on Time.spub becomes Always_on_Time.spub

There's always a problem uploading templates for BCC, DC ans MF :^(
Only uploading SP templates and other files (.jpg, .zip…) works.
I don't know why for now.

Did you try to upload blank DC and BCC (not zipped) documents?

Hi,
I'm just trying with a blank DC document with same problem.
When I upload files, it's not the file that is stored in a MySQL database, it's its name. The file itself is uploaded then moved in a folder but with a "numeric" filename.
Ex.:
filename.spub becomes id.spub where id is a "unique" number, so posters can send files with same filenames without errors/problems.
If I "zip" the blank DC document, the upload works.
I think the problem is related to the filename extension.
The filename extensions of DC and BCC have 5/6 characters (.dcover and bcard) unlike SP filename extension (spub).
It seems strange but I don't "see" other differences.
BTW, I think this site would be useful for other files than templates: masks, textures for IT effects, tips, tutorials and others…
So, is there a problem if I use the "BeLight" word in the website name?
I think about something like belightcommunity.free.fr.

I'm just trying to upload a .tables file (Tables is a new spreadsheet application for Mac OS X, http://www.x-tables.eu/more/overview.html).
The upload doesn't work :^(
I really think the problem comes from the filename extension.
So, the problem isn't related to DC, BCC or MF.
The only way to upload these files is to zip them.
A good way to save space on the other hand.
As I have very little time until next week, I leave all as is.

Hi,
The problem with templates/files for BCC, DC and MF comes from the file format.
These files are packages not "simple" file like .pdf, .tiff or other .doc.
More, I can upload files like myfile.intaglio so there's not a problem related to extension (.spub, .dcover or .intaglio).
Some SP document are packages (My Photos.spub) but other aren't (Always on Times.spub). And package files for SP aren't uploaded :^(
So all templates/documents for BeLight applications have to be zipped before uploading.
For now, I don't know how avoiding this kind of problem.
As I use parts of code (php) from a book (PHP and MySQL for dynamic web sites by Larry Ullman), I posted the problem on a dedicated forum (to this book) and I'm waiting for some answers.

Hi all,
I had the confirmation that it's impossible to upload "package document" with the method I use in my new website (http://jjboutaud.free.fr/templates4belightapps/) :^(
I use HTTP header and not FTP because this site is hosted by a ISP/hosting service that doesn't allow the use of FTP via PHP.
So what you have to do for uploading templates/documents for BeLight applications (SP, BCC, DC and MF) is "simply" to archive (zip) these files.
This is not the case for "normal" files (jpeg, gig, tiff, pdf… ).
I don't plan to change host/ISP until more users use this site.

Hi,

I also think that package-like document format (when the document is a folder containing files) may cause the upload problem. This is why I asked you about blank templates. A template contains graphics that may be saved with the original file name. Original names may contain spaces and other characters your server does not support.

Another thing is how your upload script behaves when you give it a folder name instead of a file name.

What is strange for me - why Mail Factory documents does not upload. They have single-file format, not package.

Hi Nick,
You're right, I (we ;^) can upload a MF template without the need to zip it!
In fact, I didn't really try this until this morning because I had some problems to understand what is a MF template as I don't use this application (yes, shame on me ;^).
There're plenty of folders in English.lproj and didn't know if the template was a folder (To and From - Text) or just a file (Left-Center.mfac).
But a file with a ".mfac" must be a MF template ;^)
Yet, the site is working and usable (imho).
All we have to do is to zip all templates/documents for BeLight applications, but not the masks, textures as they are mainly jpeg/tiff…

I have a question for Belight Team:
Can I use a "sitename" with the word BeLight in it. By "sitename" I mean the url.
I should wish to use something like:
http://belight_community.free.fr
Is it a "problem"?
TIA

Hi Jean-Jacques,

You can use "belight" in the name of the site that is dedicated to BeLight's software.

Hi,
The BeLight Community website has a new (friendly) url:
http://belightcommunity.free.fr/
I posted some custom templates and added more categories (tips, examples, templates, masks, textures, tools…)
Some works remain to add:
- a better way to manage uploader (for now, uploaders are not credited :^(
- a way to see a preview for each file (not o easy :-(
- a page about copyright (cliparts…) and general rules

Don't forget, this site is yours!
So, don't be "shy" ;^)
Upload your files and make them available for all BeLight apps users.
Thanks

Hi,
I added a "preview" page with full infos and preview image (if exists).
From the list of available files:
- click on filename to download file
- click on decription to view preview/full infos

Thanks,
I have to say that it's not an easy "job" to make templates!
They must be "appealing", enough versatile, using "standard" fonts (the ones provided with Mac OS X)…
I think it's really more difficult than working for a "real customer" giving to you some feedbacks.
A really interesting practice!
