Hi. In Photoshop, I developed a logo with a transparent background, and saved it as a PNG format. BCC displays the logo properly, but does not print correctly.

I did search for transparent and for PNG, but got no hits. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi denhom,
What are the problems?
- a not transparent background?
- wrong colors?
Do you use the demo (so BCC prints a watermark)?
I tried inserting some png images then previewing (in Preview.app) and/or printing the card and have no problem.
This is the card I made (the three discs are in fact a single png image (made in a drawing app). I added a shadow (using BCC), some texts (using BCC too):

You may try to:
- verify that your png image is really transparent (using Preview.app for ex.)
- convert it to tiff
- export your card to pdf and preview/print it
- add a plain color background to your card and see what happens
Hope this helps.

Jean-Jacques, thanks for the reply.

I am using the licensed version 4.3.

The problem that I have appears when something is behind the PNG file. I have a gradient that runs partly behind the PNG. Everything looks great on screen, but, when I print, the gradient is blocked out where the PNG would have a background!

Any thoughts?

Hi Dennis,
This is what I get when adding a backgroiund to my "card" and using "Print as Raster image" from the print dialog!

Image

Have you tried to print w/o this option?
Here's the same file w/o this option selected:

Also, don't forget that you may use Preview (button) from the final print dialog (the Mac OS X one, not the BCC one) and so avoid to spoil ink(s) and paper(s).

Hope this helps.

Hi,
I've made several images in AT for tests. Only the PDF format is fine for raster printing an image with transparency.

Here is a screenshot of a card shown in the Preview:

I'm having the same exact problem - my printshop won't accept a PDF, does anyone have a solution?

Hi,
Seems like the only way to avoid this problem is to use pdf files for your transparent images.
Importing pdf images in your BCC documents doesn't mean that you end up with a pdf file when exporting.
Exporting to tiff (or other bitmap formats) converts all images (pdf/tiff/png/jpg…) from your BCC documents into a bitmap one.
Here's what I get importing a pdf file (the "metal" ring) then placing it over a two colors background in BCC 4.4 (418):

How to convert tiff/png files to pdf ones?
At least, you may use Preview.app to convert any images to pdf (File>Save As…).
Be sure to make some tests before sending your files to printer (mainly regarding color profiles and resolution).
In a general way, it's better to ask about these settings to your printer before doing anything else.
Hope this helps.

JJBee - Thank you SO MUCH! You're a genius and you've saved me lots of grief. It works - you're right. I'm grateful to you.
